Altrusa of Asheville completed two Make a Difference Day projects this year. Our first project benefited AHOPE, a Homeward Bound program that provides a day center and basic services for homeless persons. By meeting some basic needs, AHOPE staff members are able to build relationships with the homeless and connect them to various community resources. Many of the homeless are in need of adequate clothing, and to help meet this need, Altrusans collected and donated to the AHOPE program a van full of jeans and other gently-used clothing items.
Asheville Altrusans also participated again this year in what has become an annual Make a Difference Day project, a donation of books and magazines for the clients of Loving Food Resources. A local food pantry for people living with HIV/AIDS and persons in home hospice care, Loving Food Resources provides food, health items, personal care items and….thanks to Altrusans….a much-appreciated supply of reading material.
