Our Projects

Altrusa House

Altrusa House of Gainesville, is our club signature project. In 2023, we celebrated 25 years of service to our community. 35 years ago there was a vision to build a place where adults with mental or physical disabilities could stay during the day. Altrusa House of Gainesville, partnered with Easter Seals Florida, is a place where people with health problems can come to make new friends and remain active. Families who are committed to keeping their loved ones at home can look to Altrusa House as an alternative to nursing home care. Altrusa House of Gainesville offers a place where family member’s health conditions can be monitored and cared for during the workday. Altrusa House promotes an active lifestyle for those with limitations and is a support system for anyone in need of care.

Committee News

The Vocational Committee held 2 yard sales this past year. Proceeds from the sale were donated to several community agencies. In December, The Literacy Committee hosted 'Party for a Cause" Donations received will be used to support Williams Elementary Reading and Attendance Incentive Programs. International Dinner- An evening of wonderful food and fellowship to benefit Ukrainian Relief Efforts. Altrusa members tried their hand at making 'authentic Ukrainian and Eastern Europe' foods. A silent Auction, a gift card tree and door prizes completed the evening. Proceeds from the event will be added to our ‘Do Good’ funds to help our community.

Human Library

Super Bowl Sunday was an opportunity to spend an hour or two ‘reading a good book’ at our 3rd Annual Human Library Event which was held in February 2024. The Human Library uses people as books as an avenue to "Unjudge someone". Books are people who have experienced prejudice, disrespect or profiling in their lives just because who they are or the job they have.
